Sharda University is a global university that educates and inspires not just Indian students but also foreign students from various ethnocultural backgrounds. This year, the Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at Sharda University has taken an innovative step towards integrating several of its international students with the help of football. With sports being a common medium of camaraderie, motivation, and creativity, the DSW at Sharda University is organising a football tournament exclusively for international students to help them bond and grow together as individuals who are part of a team of future professionals in their respective industries.
7 A Side Football and the Sharda Teams
The football tournament is a 7-a-side format of football which is generally a variation of mini-football. In this form of football, each team will have 7 players. This format of football for the DSW’s tournament has been chosen because it is an extremely fast-paced version of football that focuses on fitness, endurance, and most of all, bursting stamina of the players. It is a teeth-clenching action-packed version of traditional football since it allows players to switch quickly from attack to defence and vice-versa. Most importantly this style of football has lesser number of players on each team and during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, Sharda University is in the process of resuming education and all extracurricular activities like sports, with added precaution. Hence, the smaller size of the team will prevent crowding on the field during the tournament.
A league of teams consisting of all the participating international students has been formed, that will compete in this football tournament. The 5 teams that are competing in this 7-a-side football tournament are:

Tournament Details
The adrenaline-rushing football tournament being organised by the Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at Sharda University will be held from 19th December 2020 to 1st January 2021. The tournament begins at 4 pm and ends at 5.30 pm on all of these dates. The venue for this tournament is the Cricket Ground at Sharda University’s Greater Noida campus since for a 7-a-side football match, a full-sized football field is not needed. The tournament is a typical knock-out tournament that proceeds to semi-finals and ultimately the finals, that will feature 2 of the winning teams facing off against each other to win the Sharda University 7 A Side Football Tournament Cup.

The gates of the Greater Noida campus of Sharda University are open to all students who wish to be part of this tournament as spectators.
